A SaaS starter
in Rust
Accounts, sessions, a dashboard and a deploy pipeline, already wired. Server-rendered HTML, compile-time checked SQL, no JavaScript build step. Name your project, download a zip, cargo run.
Fast by default
One static binary, a few megabytes. Pages render in microseconds; assets ship with content hashes and immutable caching. No runtime, no cold starts.
Checked at compile time
SQL is verified against your schema with sqlx and HTML is typed with Maud. Rename a column or a route and the build tells you, not your users.
Auth and sessions included
Email + password with argon2id, server-side cookie sessions, CSRF via same-origin checks. One extractor argument makes a route signed-in only.
Built for AI agents
A single AGENTS.md is the operating manual: layout, rules, what "done" means. Clear crate boundaries and tests against a real database keep agents honest.
Postgres only
One database, embedded migrations, a fresh database per test. No queues, no caches, no second system to run until you need one.
Upgrades planned
Every project records the template revision it came from. Upstream crates sit apart from your app code so future releases can be pulled in, not pasted.
What's inside
A Cargo workspace you own from the first commit.
- Landing, sign up, sign in, sign out, dashboard — server-rendered with Maud, light and dark theme, hand-written CSS.
- shiprust-core — config from env, Postgres pool, embedded migrations,
AppError, security headers, tracing. - shiprust-auth — users, argon2id passwords on the blocking pool, cookie sessions,
CurrentUser/MaybeUserextractors. - End-to-end tests — through the router against a fresh Postgres database per test.
- CI and Dockerfile — fmt, clippy, sqlx offline check, tests; a slim image that runs as a non-root user.
- AGENTS.md — the contract for humans and agents editing the code.
